Cancel culture – its time to go! Let’s embrace true freedom for all.

A series of cancel culture articles exploring the world of an unhealthy modern-day culture, examining its impact on our society. Exploring the complexities that lie beneath the surface and ways in which to combat the BS behind it.

Cancel culture has fast become an inescapable force in today’s digital age, shaping public speech and social interactions in profound and concerning ways.

But what exactly is cancel culture and why should we care?

Well, buckle up because we’re going to tackle it head on.

What is Cancel Culture?

At its core, is basically collective ‘social punishment’ where individuals or groups are called out, condemned and often ostracised for their perceived controversial statements.

So, to be clear, cancel culture happens because someone says something that another doesn’t agree with. Think of it as the digital equivalent of being publicly shamed in the town square. Sounds petty right.

Now you have to ask, what drives this phenomenon? Is it a genuine desire for accountability and social justice or is there something more sinister at play?

Well, you have to ask yourself where does this come from?

While cancel culture may begin with noble intentions — to hold individuals accountable for harmful behaviour or problematic actions — it can quickly devolve into a mob mentality, fueled by outrage, virtue signaling and a thirst for moral superiority.

Cancel Culture. What is Cancel Culture,

Let us be the change and embrace true freedom for all.

Fear not, this is not a negative Nancy article series.

Rather a consideration of where this might lead us if we continue on the path.

For many of us grew up in a time not long from here where gossip and name calling was considered very poor behaivour, and to be honest, we still do.

We were blessed to grow up in a country that didn’t focus on race, sex and class. And I believe it’s just not right for us to sit by and let that opportunity disappear for our children.

There are practical and fair ways that we can respectfully use our own personal voices to stand up for what matters to us.

Let’s shine the light back towards the importance of open discussion, open mindedness, empathy and restorative justice in navigating the complexities of cancel culture.

Join me as I try my best to unravel the tangled web of cancel culture and explore what it means for our digital age and our future freedoms.
